42-bedroom facility to cater for patients with dementia and other mental illnesses

A planning application has been submitted to build a £4.3m residential care complex beside Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock.

The 42-bedroom facility would be for patients with dementia and other mental illnesses and would replace the Dunrod Unit at Ravenscraig Hospital.

The site of the development is vacant ground where staff accommodation flats were recently demolished.

Residents in the new facilities would each have their own en-suite bedroom. The single-storey complex would also include a café, two courtyards and a number of garden areas.

If planning permission is granted by Inverclyde Council, work is expected to begin in September, with work completed in 12 months.
