Construction work completed on new facility at Swansea University

The Leadbitter Group has completed construction of the £29m second phase of the Institute of Life Science and the £22m Centre for NanoHealth at Swansea University.

The seven-storey, 6,000sq m building is now home to a new clinical research facility; a clinical imaging suite offering CT and MRI; the Centre for Health Informatics, Research and Evaluation; and the Centre for NanoHealth. It also provides a range of fully-operational business incubation units, playing a key role in the development of new products and services for the healthcare industry and tripling the space available at the university to grow related businesses.

The building, designed by Powell Dobson Architects, has been given a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating, with technologies including rainwater recycling and a sophisticated building management system that monitors and controls lighting, heating and ventilation throughout the facility.
