Building contractor, Speller Metcalfe, has been contracted by healthcare developer, Assura, to build a new medical centre in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.
The new facility will be built on disused industrial land in Valley Road as a much-needed replacement for the town’s cramped and outdated health centre.
The existing Dockham Road building currently houses Dockham Road Surgery and Forest Health Care, both of which will move to the new site.
The new, two-storey, 1,477sq m surgery has been designed by Midlands-based architects Bundred and Goode and will feature an airy central atrium with two reception areas and separate wings on either side to house each GP practice.
Additional consulting rooms and nurse treatment areas will allow the practices to offer a broader range of services to help meet the increasing healthcare needs of the 14,000 patients that are expected to use the centre. A 98-space car park will also be created on site.
Leading the way, the centre is set to be one of the first dementia-friendly surgeries in the country with accessible signage and a layout specifically designed to take into account the needs of people with the condition.
It will also be built to the highest of sustainability standards, with the entire south-facing roof covered in photovoltaic solar panels.
