Trevor Payne, director of estates and facilities at Barts Health NHS Trust, joins esteemed judging panel

The Building Better Healthcare Awards judging panel for 2015 has been boosted with the addition of Trevor Payne, director of estates and facilities at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Replacing Kevin Oxley, director of estates and facilities at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, who will remain as an advisor, Payne has 28 years experience in NHS estates management, is a visiting lecturer at UCL Bartlett University, and a faculty member at the Cambridge University Sustainability leaders programme for healthcare.

After six years in an award-winning position at UCLH, he currently oversees six hospitals in the east end of London.

The largest healthcare trust in the NHS, it is currently carrying out a £1billion redevelopment project – representing the biggest construction scheme in Europe and the largest PFI hospital contract in the NHS to date.

Payne has a long-standing and award-winning dedication to sustainability and carbon reduction and his first book, Facilities Management – A Strategy for Success, was published in May 2000.

He said of his new role as head judge in this year's Estates and Facilities category: "There is a constant level of change in the NHS and that has to be managed and delivered, and quite often it is estates and facilities professionals who are behind that, often at times when, for the hospital, it has to be business as usual.

"The financial situation at the moment means that more and more we need innovation, good teamwork, and good people and that’s exactly what the awards are there to celebrate."

The BBH Awards celebrate the people, processes, products and premises that are helping to transform medical practices across the UK and further afield.

The winners of this year’s competition will be announced at a ceremony in central London on 4 November.
