Balfour Beatty Engineering Services provide mechanical and electrical services for pathology centre of excellence at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has started work on a £3.1m development at the pathology centre of excellence at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

The new facility, being built by main contractor, Miller Construction, will be located on the site of the former laundry building and includes refurbishment of the existing building and a part new-build facility. The unit will house a pathology centre of excellence, with a laboratory to cover a variety of testing and a ‘hot lab’ for immediate results.

BBES is providing mechanical and electrical services, some of which include low-voltage power distribution and uninterruptable power supply, fire alarm, security, heating, domestics and air conditioning systems. It will also provide specialist autoclave, cold room, DI water and pneumatic tube installations.

The project is due for completion in November with client fit-out to follow. BBES is working in partnership with Miller, DSSR, Ryder and WSP under the Procure21+ framework.
