Beckman Coulter appoints IT product manager for Northern Europe

Ed Harris to oversee clinical information systems portfolio, empowering laboratory managers and driving IT innovation

Beckman Coulter has appointed Ed Harris as its new product manager for IT in Northern Europe.

As a product expert with a passion for healthcare and a vision of the benefits that IT can bring to patient outcomes through enhanced efficiencies, he is responsible for overseeing Beckman Coulter’s clinical information systems portfolio.

He will also drive the company’s IT strategy and product innovation in order to advance healthcare for all stakeholders.

In particular, he will ensure the effective support of clinical laboratory managers in their drive for efficiency and quality in their laboratories to ultimately improve patient outcomes.

He brings expertise in healthcare IT built from working for Sunquest Information Systems where he was the product manager for Sunquest ICE for four years. During this time he helped to deliver on Sunquest’s product updates and mobile strategy. Prior to this he was a project manager for bespoke e-Learning development.

This experience has given him a deep understanding of the cost pressures and productivity demands faced by laboratory managers and how informatics can be used to empower them and deliver on clinical service excellence.

Commenting on his new role, Harris said: “Early and accurate diagnosis is the basis of modern healthcare which can improve people’s lives.

“Laboratory medicine contributes to 70% of those diagnostic decisions. I am excited about joining such a leading business in laboratory diagnostics and driving the IT strategy to fulfill our vision of advancing healthcare for every person.”

“Maintaining confidence in results at all times is, of course, critical and regulators are now demanding more-comprehensive quality control regimes.” He added.

“Another key part of my role is supporting the Beckman Academy Education programme, which runs practical workshops to help our customers get the very most out of our data management systems. For example, we have recently run workshops focusing on moving averages and rules writing.”

Beckman Coulter’s clinical information management system portfolio includes the Remisol Advance enterprise data management system; the Three60 Inventory Management system; and the Pro-Service remote instrument performance monitoring application.
