Brain injury patients show off their talents

Published: 9-Sep-2011

AN EXHIBITION of artworks created by patients at the regional neurological rehabilitation unit opened recently at Homerton Hospital. Entitled "Eureka !", the show features a display of experimental work created over the past year in specialist art workshops run at the centre. Classes are offered to patients with acquired and traumatic brain injuries twice weekly as part of multi-disciplinary ongoing therapeutic treatment. They are overseen by artist and hospital arts curator, Shaun Caton, and his team of artist volunteers. He said: "This exhibition celebrates and empowers the ingenuity, vision, humour and humanity of an otherwise unknown and unseen group with varying disabilities. The artworks are vivid collages, abstract paintings, intricate drawings and wonderful mixed media works that evoke memories and stimulate the imagination." All work is for sale, with the proceeds benefiting the arts group.
