CHP plant to open in Lancashire
LANCASHIRE Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced it is to invest £1.3m in a new combined heat and power (CHP) unit, which will help to slash carbon emissions and save cash. The technology, which will be deployed at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, will produce 600kw of electrical power as well as providing pre-warmed water for the boilers. It is expected to save the trust £125,000 a year and 1,350 tonnes of CO2. Miles Timperley, director of facilities and, said: "We installed a CHP unit last year at Royal Preston Hospital, which is delivering significant savings. We anticipate a similar effect at Chorley. Measures such as this form an important part of our efficiencies programme and help the trust to reduce its carbon footprint and improve the environment."
