New system will replace legacy solution from NHS National Programme for IT

Carestream has signed a seven-year deal with the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust in London for the supply of PACS services.

The Royal Free Hospital London is a major teaching hospital in Hampstead and is part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, a large acute NHS trust located in Camden which attracts patients from across the UK and beyond to its specialist services.

Following a recent merger, the trust now encompasses three major acute teaching Hospitals: The Royal Free Hospital, Barnet Hospital, and Chase Farm Hospital, as well as community Hospitals at Edgware, Potters Bar, Finchley and Cheshunt. In total, the trust performs 592,000 radiology examinations every year.

With an existing PACS provided by British Telecom (BT) under the terms of the NHS Connecting for Health Programme, the trust recently tendered for replacement PACS services via NHS Supply Chain. After an extensive evaluation process, the trust has signed a seven-year contract for the provision of Carestream PACS, with the option to extend for a further three years.

The CARESTREAM PACS will be provided as a managed service including software and services and hardware and will be integrated within the hospital’s new HSS RIS system.
