Cash prize for Tameside Hospital team
When it comes to cleanliness, staff at Tameside Hospital have come out on top. They have scooped a £1,000 prize from Deb, national supplier of hand hygiene products, for their campaign to improve handwashing. Josie Dickinson, a member of Tameside Hospital's infection control nursing team, said: "We are delighted that the work we have been carrying out here at Tameside has been recognised in this way. Good hand hygiene should be one of the first things people think about when they come into hospital as it is such a simple and effective way of preventing the spread of infection." The awards were open to all infection control teams in the UK, from public or private sectors, and the panel of judges included representatives from the Infection Prevention Society. Dickinson said of the prize: "We will be using the fund to continue our push to improve hand hygiene even further. We want to extend it into non-clinical areas as part of our healthy workplace drive to reduce the risk of infection and sickness in office areas."
