Theatre complex boasts Allen Advance Spinal Table

The Cheltenham Nuffield Hospital recently became the first hospital outside of the USA to use the new Allen Advance Spinal Table.

The Advance system was supplied and installed by Melyd Medical, sole distributor for Allen Medical, a Hill-Rom company.

The Cheltenham Nuffield theatre complex provides high-quality comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of surgical and medical requirements. The Allen Advance Table is an ideal addition to a unit that prides itself on utilising state-of-the-art facilities and technology.

Designed with the surgeon, patient, anaesthetist and theatre staff in mind, the Allen Advance Table can be used in all aspects of spinal surgery, both complex and minor. It offers the ability to rotate the patient safely during surgery, from a supine to a prone position. In addition full body imaging can be undertaken during surgery.

The Allen Advance Spinal Table is a combination of existing and new technologies creating a high-performance specialist system that remains robust and user friendly and offers significant advantages over other devices. Safety and ease of use is at the heart of the design and Allen has incorporated a number of innovative features to reflect this. The unique locking H-Bracket enhances patient safety when rotating the table, the innovative C-Flex Head Positioning System gives the surgeon and anaesthetist positioning precision, pressure-relieving pads help prevent pressure injuries, and the high weight capacity and easy-lock castors give ease of use and assurance to the theatre staff.

Caspar Aylott, consultant spinal surgeon, said: “The Advance is an excellent table with lots of improvements on the old Jackson design. It allows easy transfer and positioning of patients and enables high quality, 360-degree, artefact-free imaging. It allows me to safely position and perform all approaches to the lower back and neck and well as being able to flip the unstable trauma spine safely”

David Hulson, sales director at Melyd Medical, added: “We are extremely pleased to supply the first Allen Advance table to The Cheltenham Nuffield Hospital. At Melyd Medical we specialise in patient positioning. Patient safety always comes first, but we understand the needs of the users in respect of ease of use, functionality and quality.”
