Combining a mix of style and comfort in the care sector

How a new care home proves the two don’t need to be mutually exclusive with the installation of high-quality flooring products

Tŷ Llandaff is a new private residential and nursing home, built on the site of the former St Winefride’s hospital in Pontcanna, a quiet suburb of Cardiff.

The 72-bed home, completed by 55Plus and Principality Commercial, is laid out over three storeys and includes the refurbishment of the existing Pembroke House in Conway Road.

To complement the modern interiors, and to add a sense of luxurious style into the surroundings; Carpet Services (Cardiff) installed a range of high-design and durable CFS flooring products.

These not only accommodated the needs of the care home and the specification requirements set out by the building contractor; but also were stylish, durable, and met the needs of residents.

Within the reception and bar area, CFS Elements in shades Casablanca Oak and Weathered Oak provide a welcoming area for visitors and add a luxury feel with natural wood-effect tones. This particular range was chosen because it is hardwearing, scratch resistant and therefore easy to maintain in a heavy-traffic reception area.

In the bedrooms, Scala Design in the colour Flax was chosen to complement the colour schemes and create a modern feel, as well as promoting a calm and comfortable environment. This is especially important to support the specific needs of residents living with dementia.

In addition, CFS Scala Plain comes with impervious foam backing to help repel liquid spills and create a safe environment for residents.

Within the areas throughout the building that needed to be resistant to dirt, water, and stains, CFS Optimum Tonals was installed.

In addition to supplying the CFS floor coverings, Carpet & Flooring also provided a full complement of accessories, including nosings, adhesives, and screeds.

Home manager, Janice Evans, said: “The floor has completely transformed the space and has had a positive impact on all our staff and visitors.

“All of these areas were subjected to a high level of foot traffic and maintenance challenges, which placed added importance on selecting the right flooring.”
