New building incorporates \'green\' technologies as well as enhancing facilities

Assura Group has announced the completion of its latest scheme, a £2m medical centre in Maidstone, Kent.

The 12,500sq ft scheme is the new home of The Vine Medical Centre, which relocated into the premises this week. The Medical Centre building will also provide an integrated pharmacy.

Assura worked closely with GPs on the design of the practice, which will provide flexible accommodation, disabled access and enhanced facilities for 9,200 patients. The building also incorporates state-of-the-art ‘green’ technology, including photovoltaic solar panels, a living wall and a combined heat and power plant.

Simon Gould, development manager at Assura Group, said: “This project has been a long-awaited dream for The Vine Medical Centre, so we’re very pleased to see the end of construction and the GPs settling in. With the bespoke design of the building patients now have the benefit of the modern facilities, as well as the convenience of an on-site pharmacy.”

Dr Helen Downing, senior GP partner at the Vine Medical Centre, added: “We are delighted to have moved into the centre, which is a huge improvement on our previous premises. Our new site is just down the road from our old surgery, so patients won’t have far to travel, but they should still see a real difference.”

Jenner was the contractor on the scheme, which was designed by Building Ideas Architects.
