North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust awards inventory management solution contract to Ingenica Solutions

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust has awarded Ingenica Solutions a contract to supply its inventory management solution in the trust’s operating theatres department.

The initial contract is for Ingenica Solution’s inventory management ‘top up’ solution. The system is capable of providing an organisation-wide view of the trust’s inventory levels, with tracking of serial/lot information as well as expiry dates.

This solution provides North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust with the first step towards transforming inventory management, supply chain operations, reducing wastage, and achieving sustainable long-term savings.

Ben Highton, purchasing project manager at the trust, said: “With a limited budget and an extremely-tight timescale, Ingenica has gone above and beyond to help us meet our strict logistical and financial targets. Of all the solutions the trust has looked at, Ingenica offered the most straightforward to implement and the easiest for theatres staff to use; putting the emphasis on helping manage change effectively, rather than simply installing a system.”

The new NHS e-Procurement Strategy calls upon trusts to implement inventory management. This is a daunting task for most trusts, especially in times of restricted budgets and the need to make significant cost savings. Ingenica Solution’s entry-level top-up solution is fully GS1 certified and provides the opportunity for trusts to take the first step towards full rollout of an inventory management solution.

David Ford, Ingenica director, said: “This solution provides North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust with a strong base from which to develop its processes. It will enable greater visibility, effective management of inventory and more-efficient procurement practices.”
