Improved access to patient data for Derby medics

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is to deploy a new clinical portal in an effort to reduce its reliance on paper records and improve efficiency by providing clinicians with better access to patient data.

Built on Carefx technology and implemented in partnership with iSOFT, the solution will provide clinicians at the Royal Derby Hospital with a patient-centric view of the very latest real-time clinical information, supporting decision-making, patient care and safety.

Paul Regan, head of EPR and IT projects at the trust, said: “We already have a very comprehensive repository of clinical information using iSOFT’s i.CM system. Carefx technology will allow us to build on this by providing a more user-friendly display, collating patient information in a summary screen in the exact way that clinicians wish to see it.”

The decision to implement the portal is part of the trust’s commitment to becoming ‘paper lite’ and to drive operational efficiency by improving the management of paper case notes.

Regan added: “The trust will take a phased approach to implementing the portal and will initially focus on providing an intuitive interface within the outpatient department in order to reduce the need for paper case notes and providing a much quicker and easier way to access information.”
