BMI Bishops Wood Hospital in Hillingdon and BMI The King’s Oak Hospital in Enfield have migrated to digital mammography for the first time.
The hospitals have each installed a MAMMOMAT Inspiration scanner from Siemens Healthcare.
The systems replace previously-installed analogue machines and enable clinicians to rapidly view detailed high-quality images at a low dose as well as assisting with operator confidence. The ease-of-use of the MAMMOMAT Inspiration will also enable clinicians to spend more time with patients, improving patient care in the process.
The new systems at both hospitals are equipped with OpView 2, an image processing software that helps image quality, with new algorithms providing enhanced sight of masses and microcalcifications.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration also features new compression technologies, a paddle design and mood lighting for optimum patient comfort. An X-ray tube with isocentric rotation is simple to operate and adjust according to each patient, ensuring fast workflow.
With a new AEC algorithm, dose is calculated according to the individual patient’s breast size and tissue type to ensure the lowest possible dose. Fully configurable to future advances in digital mammography including stereotactic biopsy and 3D imaging using tomosynthesis, the system will only require a simple upgrade to offer screening, diagnosis and tomosynthesis on a single digital platform.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration was the first mammography system to incorporate the MoodLight function, an LED glass panel that can be illuminated with freely selectable colours, producing a comforting, relaxed effect on patients using the system.
