English country meadow comes to Huddersfield

Published: 26-Jul-2011

AT FIRST sight it could be an English country meadow, but this spectacular show of poppies, daisies and cornflowers is actually in the grounds at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, just yards away from the scene of the biggest redevelopment work ever undertaken at the hospital. The banking was created during the lengthy works to install new gas-fired boilers and to improve car parking at the hospital. And it was planted with a variety of seeds to make it low maintenance in the future as it is too steep to grass and mow. Head of estates and facilities, Frank Gibbons, said: "We are very pleased with the effect we have created and in the long-term we should get a display every year. We are always looking at ways of making the site greener to make us a good neighbour in Lindley and this has been a real success."
