A two-year construction project has come to an end, with the completion of work to redevelop Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
Integrated Health Projects (IHP) carried out the £45m revamp for the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
The work was completed in four separate phases which encompassed the construction of the new ward block to treat acute and life-threatening conditions; the Lister Macmillan Chemotherapy Centre; a new endoscopy and day surgery centre, which included the reconfiguration of the elective admissions unit; and the expansion and refurbishment of the emergency department.
The emergency department was the most-complicated phase as deliveries for the construction site were also shared with the main ambulance access route, so close liaison with East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust was essential to minimise disruption to patients.
Andrew Broumpton, senior project manager from IHP, said: “The new development looks fantastic and it would not have been possible without the vigorous determination of the team. These improved facilities will greatly improve healthcare facilities for communities in and around Hertfordshire.”
IHP, a joint venture between VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, is part of the ProCure21+ National Framework.
