Work starts on Stockport development after MedicX Healthfund agrees to stump up cash

MedicX Healthfund has this week agreed to fund the construction of a purpose-built care home in Romiley, a suburb of Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The high-specification property, which will be known as Cherry Tree House, will comprise 81 bedrooms arranged over three floors and will provide nursing care for elderly people, including those with dementia and with high dependency nursing needs.

The £6.6m facility will occupy a one-acre site incorporating landscaped gardens and 21 car parking spaces.

Work on the development has already started and completion is scheduled for September 2013.

Owned by MedicX Healthfund, the property will be developed by Northdene and will be leased over 35 years to London and Manchester Healthcare.

A spokesman for London and Manchester Healthcare said: “As a niche operator of specialist nursing homes in the North West of England, we are exceptionally proud of our first home, Gainsborough House, which opened in Warrington in August 2011. This Romiley site provides a clear opportunity to deliver a high-quality specialist care home providing specifically for high-dependency nursing care and dementia needs.”

Tim Meggitt, chief operating officer at MedicX, added: “I am pleased to announce this latest addition to the MedicX Healthfund portfolio. The management team at London and Manchester are experienced operators and developers of quality care homes with local North West expertise, who have demonstrated a shared commitment to delivering best-in-class healthcare properties.”
