Gradus delivers comprehensive range of wall protection systems to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is a new 14-floor adult hospital building set over 26,000 sq m.

Opened in April this year, it is one of the biggest critical care complexes in Europe and replaced four ageing hospitals across Glasgow, with some dating back to Victorian times.

Gradus has supplied and installed approximately 40,000 linear metres of wall protection within the hospital, which equates to 25 miles of product.

Profiles installed include a range of combi-rails, handrails, wall guards, corner guards and Sanparrel PVC-u sheet. Gradus wall protection products are through coloured and textured to conceal the effects of impact and abrasion and are modular in design, making them easy to maintain. Combined, these specialist interior products are designed to offer guidance and support to pedestrians while offering protection against damage caused by wheeled traffic in corridors and walkways.

Karen Connelly, commissioning manager at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, said: “The hospital has 1,109 beds, with each ward consisting of 28 single bedrooms. With a high volume of patients comes a high number of staff and visitors. It was therefore fundamental that we worked with a manufacturer who understands the demands of a busy hospital and the need for products to provide a safe and inclusive environment, while also helping to reduce maintenance costs.”

Anna Conrad Smith, marketing product manager at Gradus, added: “Gradus has nearly 50 years of experience within the healthcare sector and has a proven track record in successfully supplying tailored solutions and project management to the NHS.

“Thanks to our experience, we were able to provide Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a full range of wall protection systems to offer support, guidance and protection.“

Gradus provides free consultation and practical recommendations for facilities, offering a single point of contact for a range of products, including wall protection, carpets, barrier matting and flooring accessories. Gradus has also launched a new range of Safety and Protection Systems designed to provide both physical and visual barriers to impact in back-of-house applications such as service areas, loading bays and car parks.
