Green light for Lister Hospital revamp

HEALTH Secretary, Andrew Lansley, visited Stevenage's Lister Hospital this week to announce the Government's backing for the £71.5m final phase of a £150m redevelopment plan for the site. Phase four will create a create a new ward block, a new A and E, ultrasound, endoscopy, chemotherapy and day surgery units and theatres, as well as refurbish the critical care unit and main tower wards, allowing the Lister to become a major acute services hospital. Richard Beazley, chairman of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, said: “This is an exciting day for the trust, as we move to create one of the best hospitals of its type anywhere in the NHS right here in Hertfordshire. It is a real tribute to our staff, local politicians and the public in general that we have been able to attract such significant investment into the county.”
