Infection control measures are to be stepped up at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle after three elderly patients were diagnosed with stomach bugs.
A recent board meeting at the hospital heard that the three people, including a 91-year-old man, were diagnosed over 'a short period' last month.
An infection control report to the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Board, which runs the hospital, said that although there had been reductions in C.difficile cases the previous month, there was a need to 'ensure all control measures are in place'.
Report author, Dr Clive Graham, added that 'further work needs to be done regarding improving day-to-day cleaning and the rolling programme of deep cleaning'.
Speaking at the meeting, the trust's chief executive, Ann Farrar, acknowledged that cleaning was 'not perfect', but said there was now a 'much more disciplined approach'.
