IMS MAXIMS appoints Angela White as first ever medical director

Orthopaedic and informatics specialist to lead adoption of innovative solutions by healthcare trusts

IMS MAXIMS has appointed Angela White as the company’s first ever medical director.

The creation of the new post reflects the firm’s commitment to ensuring its solutions are developed in a way that supports clinicians and healthcare professionals’ needs and requirements.

An orthopaedic specialist, White has a strong track record in leading service reviews and designing and implementing change to deliver significant improvements in end-to-end care pathways for patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and more recently at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay (UHMB).

In addition, she has been involved with a number of eHealth initiatives including establishing a trauma database to provide a foundation for clinical audit and evidence-based service improvement and the introduction of picture archiving and communications system (PACS) within orthopaedic clinics, wards and theatres.

Shane Tickell, IMS MAXIMS chief executive, said: “Angela has an excellent track record and a well-deserved reputation having undertaken a number of clinical management and strategic roles at both NHS trust level and within the wider health economy.”

In addition to her service improvement work at UHMB, White also spent two years as the lead clinician for health informatics at the trust as it embarked on a project to implement the Lorenzo electronic patient record (EPR) software. This role included establishing and chairing a clinical advisory group for health informatics aimed at enhancing clinical engagement. At a national level, she was also a member of Connecting for Health's Expert Reference Group for the development of an operating theatre module for Lorenzo.

Before training in medicine, White had a career as a consultant in the IT industry.

She said: “I am passionate that change in healthcare should be strategically driven and not re-active as has so often been the case.

Implementation of the current reforms offer healthcare organisations opportunities they have not had before.

“Part of their strategy should be the adoption of solutions that not only help solve today's problems, but that are sufficiently flexible and agile to help solve those of tomorrow as well. I believe IMS MAXIMS have an exciting future in working with healthcare organisations in all sectors to deliver this change and I'm delighted to join the team.”
