IT virtualisation technology adoption made easier

The NHS Commercial Procurement Collaborative has announced a deal with VMware and Computacenter to make it easier for NHS trusts to adopt IT virtualisation technology. A growing number of trusts are opting to use the technology as a cost-effective method of accessing their data, with some resulting in significant reductions to their power costs. Dr Zafar Chaudry, chief information officer at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust, said the trust's IT power costs fell 75% over recent years by using tools such as desktop and server virtualisation. He said: "Aside from the impressive cost benefits, virtualisation also means our IT is far more simplified and we're a far more agile organisation."
