Advanced pressure cushions now available to UK and Ireland markets

Kirton Healthcare has announced a new distribution agreement with Sumed International (UK) to distribute Intelli-Gel Cushions to the UK and Ireland.

As part of the agreement, Derbyshire-based Sumed will have exclusive distribution rights for these advanced pressure cushions to the UK and Ireland wheelchair services, community equipment services and NHS hospital markets.

Mark Fowkes, sales director and the man behind the collaboration, said: “This is a great opportunity for Kirton to work with such an experienced, knowledgeable, market-leader to deliver Intelli-Gel Cushions to a wider audience.”

Kirton developed Intelli-Gel Cushions to incorporate the latest in pressure care advances offering pressure relief for those at very high risk and assist with the healing of pressure ulcers up to Grade II (EPUAP).

Unlike air or fluid-based cushions, Intelli-Gel cannot leak or puncture and continues to perform effectively even if damaged. The simplicity of the cushions is underpinned by a sound understanding of why and how pressure ulcers are formed. Intelli-Gel does not require set up or maintenance; cushions can simply be placed in a chair or seating system and will be effective immediately.

The cushions are available in two versions; a Contoured variant and a Low Profile Topper.

The Contour version is designed to replace regular seat cushions and can be used in wheelchairs, on hard surfaces and sling seats. The Topper is designed for use on top of existing seat cushions or on sling wheelchair seats to improve comfort without significantly increasing seat height. The Topper can also be used for healthy individuals who sit for long durations, such as long-distance drivers, frequent air travellers, or office workers, to help improve comfort.
