Top UK companies take up space in ground-breaking digital health demonstration centre in Ningbo

The UK has further cemented links with the medical technology sector in China with the opening of a digital health demonstration centre in Ningbo.

The facility, part of a ground-breaking collaboration between the UK and Zhejiang governments, showcases the UK's expertise in digital healthcare from its base at the city’s Number 2 Hospital in Zhejiang Province.

Bringing world-leading British companies together under one roof, the demonstration centre will showcase digital health technologies, allowing visitors to observe, learn and interact with the participating firms and their products and services.

I am confident that the demonstrator will go a long way towards strengthening the ties between UK and China’s healthcare industries, ultimately providing a foundation for a better healthcare system in both countries

Services being demonstrated include video-based telemedicine; telehealth; self-care online platforms for long-term conditions, including dementia diagnosis; electronic health records; medicines management solutions; big data analytics; and patient satisfaction analytics.

Participating companies include BT Health, Ixico, Nine Health and TPP.

Brian Gallagher, counsellor and campaign strategy director for Life Sciences in China, said of the initiative: “The demonstrator centre is a ground-breaking initiative in China as part of long-term collaboration between UKTI, Healthcare UK and Zhejiang. With the launch of the demonstrator centre, I am sure we will see abundant exciting opportunities arising for the two countries to explore collaboration on the healthcare front.

“I am confident that the demonstrator will go a long way towards strengthening the ties between UK and China’s healthcare industries, ultimately providing a foundation for a better healthcare system in both countries.

I believe the benefits to be gained will lead to a step change in the quality of healthcare available to the citizens of China

Howard Lyons, managing director of Healthcare UK, added: “The launch of the demonstrator represents a significant milestone in the developing collaboration between leading British health IT organisations and progressive healthcare providers in Zhejiang Province.

“I believe the benefits to be gained will lead to a step change in the quality of healthcare available to the citizens of China and we look forward to further successful collaborations in the coming year as part of the agreement signed between Zhejiang Health Bureau and Healthcare UK.”
