Lewisham hospital outpatient unit, Kingfisher, opens

Published: 9-May-2011

A new building has opened at University Hospital Lewisham providing state-of-the-art children's and adult outpatient facilities. Called Kingfisher, the unit will provide improved facilities for patients, with more clinical space and larger waiting areas. There will also be improved play facilities for young patients waiting to be treated. Claire Champion, director of operations and nursing, said "We are very proud of our services at Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and this development replaces an old hospital building, ensuring that patients are treated in a modern, purpose-built environment. Local children were involved in planning the new facilities and we took account of patient feedback when designing the adult outpatient department." Other improvements planned include a new urgent care centre, upgraded A and E facilities and a new main entrance and reception area.
