Neighbourhood facility latest in multi-million pound health improvement programme

A £6m neighbourhood health centre has opened its doors to patients in Liverpool.

Developed by Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnership (LSHP) on behalf of NHS Liverpool, the facility will offer extended GP services so that patients can benefit from appointments in the evenings and at weekends. It will also provide a range of other health and wellbeing services including dental services, counselling, sexual health screening and advice, phlebotomy services and minor surgery, in addition to an on-site pharmacy.

Located in Townsend Lane in Anfield, the development is part of NHS Liverpool’s wider vision for A New Health Service for Liverpool, which was announced in 2007 and has seen millions of pounds invested in new health facilities across the city since then.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, chairman of the trust, said: “When we outlined our plans we had a vision of delivering a wider range of services closer to people’s homes, to make it more convenient and quicker for patients to access them.

“Over the past few years we’ve made enormous progress and I feel extremely proud that yet another building has been delivered for patients in Liverpool. It reflects the continued success of the programme and I feel extremely proud that we are continuing to deliver the highest quality of buildings that will not only house a wider range of services, but are going to make a huge difference to patients in the Anfield area.”

Graham Pink, chief executive of LSHP, added: “We are delighted to be able to open this new neighbourhood health centre today. As a company, we are absolutely committed to providing buildings that positively contribute to the health and wellbeing of whole communities, and we believe that this will be a huge asset for everyone living in the area.”

LSHP is made up of a number of industry partners, who work as a consortium under NHS LIFT. They include Assura Healthcare, Galliford Try Investments, Bilfinger Berger Project Investments and Sapphire Primary Care Developments.
