Manchester Royal Infirmary tackles major conditions with interventional radiology system
Artis zee centrepiece of interventional radiology suite
Manchester Royal Infirmary has unveiled the latest addition to its state-of-the-art interventional radiology suite.
The hospital, part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has purchased an Artis zee ceiling-mounted interventional x-ray system.
The technology, manufactured by Siemens Healthcare, is expected to deliver improved productivity, enhanced image quality and more efficient dose reduction measures to the benefit of both staff and patients.
It will be used for a variety of procedures including minimally-invasive treatments for vascular disease; vertebroplasty; insertion and maintenance of access portals and lines for dialysis, chemotherapy and stem cell patients; plus emergency procedures such as embolisation after trauma.
It is anticipated the system will also assist the hospital to handle increased capacity following its recent designation as a major trauma centre.
With a large flat detector and motorised C-arm, the system can be flexibly and rapidly positioned around the patient. It also features application syngo DynaCT, rapidly delivering 3D cross-sectional images. This allows procedures to run smoothly without the need for an additional CT scan. The system is also equipped with all the latest Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure (CARE) features and CLEAR post processing technology, supporting enhanced image quality at the lowest achievable doses.
“We chose the Artis zee to improve productivity and enhance patient care with its CARE and CLEAR low dose features,” said Angela Parkinson, lead interventional radiographer at the hospital.
“Staff are very familiar with the system interface, having used several other Artis zees in the hospital. The initial feedback has been excellent.”
