Mansell wins three NHS construction contracts despite capital spending cuts

Amid fears that opportunities to win contracts for NHS construction projects will dry up as the NHS is forced to make cash efficiencies, one firm has bucked the trend, winning three new deals in recent weeks.

A member of the Balfour Beatty Group, Mansell has secured the work through the ProCure21+ Framework, with Great Ormond Street Hospital awarding a £17m enabling works and redevelopment contract, plus control of a three-year programme of small works consisting of multiple refurbishment projects.

Mansell has also been successful in its bid to build a new £2.5m radiotherapy satellite unit at Hereford County Hospital for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. And, in Plymouth, the firm will take control of the reconfiguration and refurbishment of Derriford Hospital's Royal Eye Infirmary outpatients department and urgent care centre as part of a £1.6 million deal. Mansell has worked on Procure21 projects with both Plymouth and Great Ormond Street in the past, but this is the first link-up with the Gloucestershire trust, which is a new framework partner.

Work on each scheme will start on site this year, with completion of all projects expected by March 2014.
