Independent medium-secure facility proposed for site near New Cross Hospital

Early plans have been unveiled to demolish a pay-and-display car park opposite New Cross Hospital and develop a mental health unit on the site.

Sixty jobs would be created under the proposals put forward by Marantomark Group for the 24-hour medium-secure facility.

Under the plans, up to 20 people will be treated in one block, while another three-storey block would comprise apartments for full-time accommodation for patients.

Its proposal, recently submitted to Wolverhampton City Council, says: “The operator proposes to provide independent hospital care to people with mental health disorders who require a more-secure facility to undergo treatment and rehabilitation services.

“It is a service which responds to the local need both to meet the current and the future demand.

“The unit will comprise a total of 20 bedrooms, lounge, dining and activity rooms for residents and a garden, while the apartment block will be a separate building which also includes communal areas.”
