Merriott launches SMART radiant panel range

Published: 29-Jul-2015

New products designed to deliver energy savings of up to 40%

Merriott has added a range of radiant panels to its comprehensive portfolio of cost-effective heating and cooling solutions for commercial and industrial applications.

The SMART ceiling panels range has been designed to provide bespoke, high-performance and efficient radiant heating and cooling – delivering energy savings of up to 40% compared to typical convective systems, without compromising on comfort.

Manufactured to the very highest levels of quality, the five-strong portfolio has been independently tested and accredited under the European standard EN14037 for radiant performance. From single ceiling panels, right through to full heated and cooled metal ceilings, each product in the range is custom made to provide effective heating and cooling for a whole spectrum of projects.

David Jones, radiant panel operations manager at Merriott, said: “The introduction of SMART radiant panels to our range marks an important business development investment for us here at Merriott, and we see it very much as a step into the future.

“Long-term energy performance is a major concern for both new-build and refurbishment projects, and specifiers are under increasing pressure to source cost-effective and convenient heating systems that will deliver ongoing results.

“SMART radiant ceiling panels not only offer significant energy, cost and carbon savings for end users, but also provide increased design flexibility and better use of space – making them the ideal solution for larger, hard-to-heat buildings.”

The SMART range operates by transferring radiant heat from above directly onto the surfaces inside a building, which then act as a secondary heat source to raise the indoor temperature. Utilising this process means buildings benefit from optimum heating comfort at a reduced air temperature - around 3°C lower than convective systems (CIBSE B1-4). It also makes for quicker warm-up times, more-accurate controls, and cuts energy consumption and emissions. Alternatively, for cooling purposes, the panels can operate as passive chilled beams, using cool water.

As well as the flagship SMART Radiant Panel for suspended ceiling applications, the portfolio includes the versatile SMART Plus, ideal for suspended or raft ceilings with a greater surface area; and SMART Style models, which are designed to offer a total ceiling solution with integrated services, such as lighting or ventilation. For larger-scale, industrial use, Merriott has also developed the SMART HD (heavy duty) large bore panel and the SMART HRV, a lightweight large bore version made from a combination of aluminium and steel, which delivers a market-leading radiant value of 90%.

Jones said: “All five of the SMART ceiling panels can be sized to meet the precise dimensions and output requirements of individual applications and our team of experts is on hand to provide the specification, design and post-installation support to help customers get the best out of the range, at every step of the way.”
