First phase of construction completed

The first phase of the multi-million pound transformation of Dane Garth adult mental healthcare unit at Barrow in Furness has been completed.

Constructed by Mansell, the scheme was commissioned by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and has seen the unit comprehensively refurbished and extended to create 20 single en-suite bedrooms. The development also includes a number of lounges, a dinging room, gym and occupational therapy spaces as well as secure courtyard gardens and improved visitor and staff areas.

The building was designed by P+HS Architects, while the interior design was the work of Kim Crawford from Redesign Interiors and includes the use of bold colours.

The second phase of the project, which will provide 15 beds for people with dementia, is currently underway and is due for completion this summer.
