Flexible maintenance contract covers 100 items of diagnostic imaging equipment

Asteral and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have agreed a new five-year Asteral Protect contract which went live on 1 April.

The deal is for the maintenance of 100 items of diagnostic imaging equipment including two CTs, two MRs and nine ultrasound machines spread across five hospital sites, a GP surgery, and a prison.

The trust procured the service through the North of England NHS Commercial Procurement Collaborative maintenance framework.

The go-live follows an audit of the trust’s equipment and transfer of management letters being issued to the relevant incumbent maintenance providers. Through the Asteral Service Centre, the single point of contact for all equipment maintenance, the majority of equipment will be maintained by engineers from Asteral’s sister company, MESA, and other independent service organisations. This use of resources ensures the best value for the trust, while ensuring key performance indicators are met and equipment is maintained to the highest standards.

Jayne Fielden, Doncaster’s superintendent radiographer, said: “The approach of having different cover levels and maintenance providers all under one contract as we have been able to tailor the service to our needs. Having worked with Asteral to prepare for the go-live we are delighted the service has started and are excited about realizing the benefits.
