This year the Building Better Healthcare Awards is being supported by P + HS Architects and Twyford Bathrooms.

The two companies are sponsoring award categories for the 2013 competition, which will be the biggest yet, with 22 awards up for grabs.

P + HS Architects is sponsoring the Grand Prix Healthcare Building Design Award. This is a new category for this year’s event and will be presented to the project the judges feel has made the biggest impact in terms of design and the effect it has on the people who use it. The winner will be chosen from all the entries in all categories within the Building Project Class .

Established for more than 30 years, P + HS Architects is a 60-strong practice operating from Leeds, London and North Yorkshire. It is particularly recognised for its specialist work in healthcare, its track record of delivery, and its expertise in sustainable design, modular construction and collaborative working.

Recent works carried out by the team include:

  • Houghton Primary Care Centre: Winner of the 2012 Building Better Healthcare Award for

Innovation in Sustainability, this facility actively promotes long-term health benefits to the local community, strengthening links between health and wellbeing and offering extensive out-of-hospital services including an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Constructed by Wilmott Dixon , this highly-sustainable development was the first BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ project for the NHS

  • The Endeavour Unit: A visionary project working with Interserve and collaboratively designed with NBBJ transforms cancer services in the North East of England at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Innovative construction methods and high-quality finishes eradicate the clinical feel traditionally associated with such facilities and place the patient at the centre of the design
  • Pallion Health Centre: This development replaced cramped and outdated facilities adjacent to the City Hospital in Sunderland. It provides facilities for three GP practices, an on-site pharmacy, a discrete area for disruptive patient services, a community clinic, health promotion service, minor procedures suite, podiatry, and eye screening

Twyford, which is sponsoring the Award for Best Primary Care Design, has led the way in bathroom innovation for more than 160 years, creating beautiful sanitaryware to suit every home and commercial application. In addition to domestic retail customers, the company works closely with the healthcare sector, as well as the education, hotel, restaurant, security and leisure industries.

Products in the healthcare range include shower fittings, taps, sinks, janitorial units, scrub-up troughs, disposal units, urinals, bidets and toilets and each is designed to exceed national standards for health institutions.

The company, which is part of the Sanitec Group, is also the world’s only bathroom manufacturing company to have been awarded the Royal Warrant, which it has held since 1999.
