Philips and King’s College NHS Foundation Trust have today announced a new managed equipment services agreement in support of the trust’s cardiology department.
This partnership will provide King’s with continuous access to Philips cutting-edge ultrasound technology for its cardiology unit over the next five years.
Innovation in ultrasound imaging has grown dramatically in recent years, making its usage much more appealing as an additional modality particularly in minimally-invasive image-guided cardiac interventions
This agreement will include innovative upgrades for both hardware and software releases as well as maintenance and training, upholding the trust’s status as a leading echocardiography centre for clinical service and research.
Internationally respected, King’s roots are firmly based in the heart of the community, therefore this partnership will ensure innovative and affordable care is made accessible to the diverse inner city population, including some of the mos- deprived communities in the capital, which are served by the Trust.
As a result the trust will be the first hospital in London to benefit from the new Philips EPIQ anatomical intelligence ultrasound imaging platform. For the first time, Anatomical Intelligence – a rich data base of anatomic structural models and adaptive system technology – has been built into an ultrasound system, enabling it to produce more-definitive clinical results. Anatomical Intelligence provides advanced organ modelling, image slicing, and proven quantification, making exams easier to perform and reproduce, delivering new levels of clinical information. EPIQ also combines this with the precision clarity of nSIGHT imaging, providing the ability to see new levels of tissue uniformity, making for a faster more intuitive ultrasound system.
In all, six EPIQ systems will be installed at the trust’s site, as well as three CX50 high-performance mobile ultrasound units. To eliminate any potential downtime resulting from equipment maintenance or breakdown a further two standby EPIQ systems will also be supplied to ensure that the trust’s busy cardiac department is able to function fully at all times offering the optimum inpatient service.
