Radiography revamp underway

Construction work is underway to improve facilities in the radiography department at Scarborough Hospital. The scheme, which has been designed by Harrogate-based GSS Architecture, will feature a state-of-the-art mammography and ultrasound facility as well as a new reception and patient waiting area. "Enhancing patient privacy and dignity and improving the patient and clinical flow have been the key factors behind the design of this project," said James Hayward, director of facilities at Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr Ian Renwick, consultant radiologist, added: "The clinical team are delighted this important project is progressing. We will take delivery of the new digital mammography machine once the building works are complete. This new equipment will allow us to have access to state-of-the-art image quality which will greatly improve privacy for our breast imaging patients as well as providing much-needed expansion of other patient areas in the department." Building services are being provided by Redworth Associates, while Alan Wood and Partners is looking after civil and structural implications. The construction works are due to be completed in November.
