Redevelopment of the Bristol Royal Infirmary

Published: 20-Sep-2011

WORK on the redevelopment of the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) and the extension to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is gathering pace. In the last month, construction began in earnest in the emergency department and the steel frame that will support the extension to the children's hospital is being put up. Deborah Lee, director of strategic development for University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Work is well under way and staff, visitors and patients will see the evidence of this when they visit our sites. We know the building work will cause disruption, but we have carefully considered the impact and made alternative arrangements. Importantly these projects will deliver fantastic improvements for both patients and staff when they are completed, which is something to keep at the forefront of our minds."
