New architectural practice gets thumbs-up for development near Canterbury

Richard Morton Architects has secured planning permission for a 60-bed care home for Frontier in Hersden near Canterbury.

The commission is the first for the practice, which was set up in November 2012 by Richard Morton, previously a partner at Sidell Gibson Architects for 12 years.

The 30,000sq ft care home will occupy a sensitive corner site on the A28 and includes a three-storey tower. Protected by the wings of the L-shaped layout is an extensive and well-sheltered garden area.

The home is intended to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ and completes a residential development that was left unfinished five years ago.
