First UK In-Bore installation lets patients choose from relaxing visual themes with accompanying sounds from Philips’ Ambient Experience technology

Royal Philips has provided equipment for the new Nuffield Health diagnostic suite in Manchester.

Housed at Citylabs in Oxford Street, and directly opposite Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, the suite will make a portion of its diagnostic services available to patients referred from the NHS to provide increased access to imaging procedures including MR, X-Ray, ultrasound and CT.

As well as increasing the number and type of diagnostic scans available to the people of Manchester, and with a focus on orthopaedics and cardiology diagnostics, the suite is part of a holistic health network in the region that aims to make more facilities available to the population and promote innovation in research

Barbara Baker, Manchester market director for Nuffield Health, said: “In Manchester we are seeing a real enthusiasm around the devolution agenda, which dovetails into our vision of offering a fully-integrated health and wellbeing proposition.

“Our new suite is equipped with the very latest diagnostic and imaging technology, which will serve the healthcare framework across Manchester and our patients will benefit hugely from a more-comfortable and relaxed experience.”

The suite, opened recently by former 800m world champion athlete, Diane Modahl, offers advanced facilities for patients as well as professionals including the first UK In-Bore installation, which lets patients choose from a series of relaxing visual themes with accompanying sounds from Philips’ Ambient Experience technology. The suite also aims to provide a new level of integrated state-of-the-art facilities incorporating preventative and tertiary care by offering a range of services such as health assessments, physiotherapy and GP consultations alongside imaging services.

The diagnostic equipment installed also includes:

  • Ingenia 1.5T MR Scanner including Ambient Experience with In-Bore experience
  • Ingenuity 128 CT Scanner including full Ambient Experience
  • Digital Diagnost HP DR System including AmbiScene and Auto Image Stitching Software
  • Epiq 5 Ultrasound Scanner
  • IntelliSpace MR and CT Imaging Portal

“Philips is excited to support any innovative collaboration between private and public health providers, such as with this initiative, that delivers high-quality patient care,” said Ian Graves, director of imaging systems at Philips.

“This type of agreement exemplifies the vision laid out by the Government’s Five Year Forward View, whereby NHS and private service providers are able to sit side-by-side and truly complement each other.”
