Ergonomic seating helps to relieve pain among healthcare practitioners

A new seating range has been launched aimed specifically at healthcare professionals.

Plinth 2000’s ergonomic work chairs for clinicians aim to help doctors and nurses practice what they preach about posture and relieve symptoms such as back and neck pain.

Designed in Scandinavia and specially engineered, the clinical-grade seating range includes the Activ model, which has a backrest that adapts automatically to movement, making it perfect for clinicians, consultants and reception staff; while the saddle-seated Supportiv is especially suited to dentists, podiatrists and other therapists who require more flexibility.

As well as following the slightest body movement, The Activ’s tapered backrest design provides freedom of movement for the arms and optimum lumbar support for the back, while the height is fully adjustable. The moulded foam seat has a waterfall edge that reduces pressure on the thighs, with the height easily adjusted by a control lever, and the armrests can be altered for height and width, with one rotatable up to 360˚.

The Supportiv’s saddle-shaped seat improves support for the base of the spine and incorporates an adjustable back pad for bolstering the lower back. The seat height can be adjusted from 57cm to 80.5cm and the seat and backrest angles can be infinitely adjusted, using conveniently-located controls.

A spokesman for Plinth 2000 said: “Most clinicians and hands-on healthcare professionals will be well aware that poor posture when sitting can cause or aggravate back pain and will often advise patients accordingly. But do they practice what they preach? Sometimes they will work for hours on chairs that provide little or no lumbar support or treat clients standing up or leaning forward, with no relief for backs and legs.”
