Waterproof membrane provides reliable and high-performance waterproofing system that will enable swift and efficient roofing installation

Sika Trocal has supplied 600sq m of its Trocal S waterproof membrane to provide a reliable and high-performance waterproofing system at the new-build Pollokshields Doctor’s Surgery in Glasgow.

For the new building’s 600sq m flat roof, split into two levels, a waterproofing membrane was required that would deliver a safer and more-efficient application. During the project Procladd became the first contractor in Scotland to use a new installation innovation from SFS intec – demonstrating the contractor’s determination to embrace new technology and the advantages that it brings to the industry.

Suitable for mechanically-fastened roofs in both new-build and refurbishment applications, Sika-Trocal Type S is generally to provide the most-rapid and economic system to install. The roofing system was securely fixed in place using SFS intec’s new heat induction welding tool, combined with a chalk marker indication system for speed and efficiency.

The insulation boards were fixed to the profiled steel deck in a field fix pattern, using thermally-broken sleeves, fastners and isoweld stress plates. Sika Trocal S in slate grey was then applied and the stress plate positions marked up with chalk, before the isoweld stress plates were induction welded to the membrane. This enabled an easier installation and ensured that consistently strong welding was achieved.

Mechanical fastening, coupled with induction welding, proved a strong, safe method for fixing single-ply roofs and is unaffected by most of the issues that alternative adhesive fix systems face. By using this new tool, the contractor achieved a secure and economic fixing solution. Additionally, by utilising the field fix method of application, the number of fasteners necessary can be reduced by up to 20% when compared with in-seam fix applications.

Offering exceptional waterproofing, durability and a simple installation process, the cold-applied Type S roofing membrane from Sika-Trocal is approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) to have a life expectancy of up to 30 years. Combined with an efficient installation that ensured an improved seal, the Type S waterproofing membrane will deliver excellent performance at the doctor’s surgery for many years to come.
