Simons Group has been chosen to create a new hospital for Nuffield Health in Trumpington Road, Cambridge.
The project, which has been designed by P+HS Architects, is valued at approximately £12.9m and the works will comprise 36-bed inpatient and day case wards, an outpatient department with 16 consulting rooms, and a daycase oncology department with a five-bed bay, plus two individual patient rooms.
Services to be provided include a diagnostic imaging department with two X-ray rooms complete with mammography, MRI and CT scanners. There also will be a physiotherapy department, staff administration department, three state-of-the-art digital theatres, and an endoscopy and short-stay patient suite, alongside associated support services including drainage, external services and external works.
Work is expected to with enabling works later this month and is due to be completed in March 2015. The existing hospital will remain in full use throughout the duration of construction.
Simons will work with Nuffield and the consultant team over the coming months to ensure that the works are robustly designed and planned to ensure safe delivery of the works with negligible impact on Nuffield Health‘s day-to-day clinical activity, its staff, patients, visitors, and the general public.
As a considerate contractor, Simons will liaise with the existing hospital and the local community to ensure that all are kept fully informed about the project via the Simons Group website and various social media channels.
Paul Hodgkinson, chairman of Simons Group, said: “We are extremely proud and delighted to be working with Nuffield Health on such an important project. We now look forward to working with Nuffield, the consultant team and all project stakeholders to deliver the vision of a state-of-the-art, world-class facility that will improve patient care for this and future generations.”
“It has been a long process, reaching the conclusion to appoint Simons,” added Maxine Estop, director of the Nuffield Hospital in Cambridge.
“Building excellence of course is paramount, but the contractor had to understand and be able to relate to the specific nature of the site and its physical context. We are satisfied that Simons fully understands these.”
