Solar panel plan at Winchester

Published: 30-Aug-2011

WINCHESTER and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust is considering installing solar panels as part of plans to save energy and reduce its carbon footprint. Energy-saving measures already in place include the commissioning of combined heat and power units, a needle disposal contract to reduce the volume of plastic sent for incineration, and restricted parking at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, which has led to 350 members of staff switching to the park-and-ride scheme. Michael Leggatt, the trust's general manager, said: "We're looking at solar panels and all other energy-saving devices." Lynn Davis, environment and compliance manager, added: "Going forward it's going to be harder to reduce our footprint because we have done the obvious things."
