St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust installs Praim Compact Dual Core C9010 integrated with Imprivata OneSign

St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust is using the Praim Compact Dual Core C9010 integrated with Imprivata OneSign to optimise its virtual computing environment.

“To ensure the highest quality of care possible for more than a million patients that we serve each year, it is critical that our staff are able to quickly access clinical systems and patient information in a busy environment,” says John-Jo Campbell, the trust’s chief information officer. “This presented a challenge because clinicians are constantly moving between computers, shared workstations, patient rooms and wards. With this solution we are able to deliver secure, personalised desktops at the point of care, via the user’s NHS smartcard.”

The Praim Compact Dual Core C9010 is based on VIA Eden X2 dual core 1GHz processor and supports all main centralisation technologies such as Citrix, Microsoft RDS, VMware View and Virtual Bridges Verde to give users the flexibility to access different environments from one client. It is the first Linux-based terminal that provides complete support for Imprivata OneSign through Smart and Proximity cards. The true innovation of Praim lies in ThinOX, the operating system based on Linux technology entirely designed and developed by Praim. ThinOX Thin Clients are affordable, fast to configure, easy to manage and have no associated maintenance costs. With substantial savings on energy consumption compared to PCs, customers see a return on investment within three years.

“Thin clients present an enormous opportunity for hospitals to reduce the excess costs and complexities associated with the management of IT infrastructure”, says Alessio Broccardo, sales director for Praim in the UK. “At Praim we have integrated our solution with Imprivata’s to combine these benefits with a reliable, stable and secure environment for accessing patient information. The result is an affordable solution that increases productivity, improves services delivered and saves hospitals money.”

Imprivata OneSign enables fast, secure ‘No Click Access’ to patient data by allowing care providers to authenticate once using two factors, then tap their smartcards to log in and out of applications on virtual desktops that follow them throughout their shifts. This provides clinicians with the information they need at the point of care, allowing them to focus on patients rather than being distracted by technology.

“The highly-mobile workforce and sensitive nature of patient data make the healthcare industry unique when it comes to accessing information,” said Mark Clark, vice president of international at Imprivata. “At a time when trusts are being forced to do more with less, providing fast, secure access at the point of care is a huge benefit to both IT and clinicians. St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust has an excellent reputation for applying leading technology to advanced medical research and care, and we are delighted that the combined Imprivata/Praim solution is helping the hospital improve its care delivery process.”
