12 UK firms among first cohort to receive support as part of Amazon Web Services’ Healthcare Accelerator programme

Twelve innovative new healthcare solutions, including a digital communications platform, an online surgical clinic, and a mental health platform, have been selected as among the first successful applicants for support as part of Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Healthcare Accelerator programme.

The UK companies were selected from 117 applications from 13 countries and represent a variety of healthcare solutions backed by diverse leadership, with 50% of the cohort identifying as women-owned or minority-owned start-ups.

Applications were judged on several factors, including the innovative and unique nature of the project, the overall value the solution will bring to the healthcare industry, the creative application of AWS to solve problems, and the team’s ability to deliver on an identified opportunity.

Announced in October last year, the AWS Healthcare Accelerator in the UK is a four-week programme that cultivates and promotes innovative start-up solutions that achieve the quadruple aim of improved patient experience, improved clinician experience, better health outcomes, and lower cost of care.

Among the participants is Dignio, which connects patients and healthcare professionals through a digital platform that disrupts the traditional way of delivering health services and opens up new possibilities for a more-sustainable solution.

The award-winning solution enables safe and cost-effective care, while at the same time liberating clinicians from routine tasks.

Ewa Truchanowicz, Dignio managing director said: “We are delighted to have been selected for this highly-competitive accelerator programme.

“The breadth and variety of expertise made available via the programme is superb, and we look forward to increased growth in the UK and globally.”

Wysa, an AI-guided mental health support app, was also successful.

It helps users to self manage their wellbeing by blending AI-guided listening with professional expert support.
