Twelve innovative new healthcare solutions, including a digital communications platform, an online surgical clinic, and a mental health platform, have been selected as among the first successful applicants for support as part of Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Healthcare Accelerator programme.
The UK companies were selected from 117 applications from 13 countries and represent a variety of healthcare solutions backed by diverse leadership, with 50% of the cohort identifying as women-owned or minority-owned start-ups.
Applications were judged on several factors, including the innovative and unique nature of the project, the overall value the solution will bring to the healthcare industry, the creative application of AWS to solve problems, and the team’s ability to deliver on an identified opportunity.
Announced in October last year, the AWS Healthcare Accelerator in the UK is a four-week programme that cultivates and promotes innovative start-up solutions that achieve the quadruple aim of improved patient experience, improved clinician experience, better health outcomes, and lower cost of care.
Among the participants is Dignio, which connects patients and healthcare professionals through a digital platform that disrupts the traditional way of delivering health services and opens up new possibilities for a more-sustainable solution.
The award-winning solution enables safe and cost-effective care, while at the same time liberating clinicians from routine tasks.

Wysa, an AI-guided mental health support app, was also successful.

- PEP Health: PEP Health uses AI to provide deep insight into what patients are thinking in real time. Its proprietary Natural Language Processing technology transforms millions of patient comments into measurable and comparable data so they can be used to improve experiences, drive better outcomes, and democratise the patient voice
- Remedy rx: Remedy’s platform captures the 95% of data that sits outside of the healthcare system by creating a direct, dynamic, and longitudinal link between patients and their physicians, leading to life-changing results
- Birdie: Birdie delivers the most-comprehensive, built-as-one technology platform for home care providers. Through the integration of data into a single source, this help home care providers of all sizes offer a superior level of service to older adults in the UK – personalised around their needs, their health, and their happiness
- Infinity Health: Infinity is a SaaS task management solution for healthcare, providing staff with tools to plan and co-ordinate care, monitor performance, and make real-time operational decisions that improve safety and efficiency. It replaces outdated technologies and inefficient processes, seamlessly integrating with existing systems to automate and optimise high-volume, mission critical tasks. The activity data collected can also be used to build predictive models that inform strategic resourcing and planning decisions
- Abtrace: Abtrace supports healthcare systems to transform the way long-term health conditions are detected, monitored, and treated. The platform that acts as data-driven layer sitting on top of EHRs, prompting pro-active interventions and earlier diagnosis
- C the Signs: C the Signs is a clinical system that uses AI mapped with the latest evidence to identify patients at risk of cancer at the earliest and most-curable stage of the disease
- Thymia:Thymia analyses speech, video, and behavioural data gathered via specially-designed video games to help clinicians assess mental health conditions objectively and accurately
The accelerator programme provides the selected start-ups with AWS Promotional Credits, specialised AWS training, mentoring from healthcare domain and technical subject matter experts, business development, go-to-market guidance, and investment guidance.
The companies will also have potential proof-of-concept opportunities with public sector healthcare customers.
The programme brings in healthcare industry leaders to collaborate with start-ups on topics ranging from business models, regulatory pathways, clinical validation, electronic health record integration, and more.
It also fosters collaboration opportunities with AWS customers and AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners looking for innovative healthcare solutions.
