Dr Sam Everington OBE, London GP, chairman of NHS Tower Hamlets Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), and a former Building Better Healthcare Awards judge, has joined the board of trustees at The King’s Fund.
He has been a GP in Tower Hamlets since 1989 and is also a board member of NHS Clinical Commissioners. He is part of the Bromley By Bow GP partnership, an innovative community organisation with over 100 projects under its roof supporting the wider determinants of health, and he is a qualified barrister, a member of the BMA Council and a director of Community Health Partnerships (NHS LIFT).
In 1999 Dr Everington received an OBE for services to inner city primary care and, in 2006, The International Award of Excellence in Health Care.
Commenting on the appointment, Sir Christopher Kelly, Chairman of The King's Fund, said: “I am delighted to welcome Dr Sam Everington as the newest addition to our board of trustees. The fund has a deep interest in innovation in the commissioning and delivery of care. With his substantial experience of delivering health care to local communities and insight gained through many years working at a national level, I know Sam will make a valuable contribution to our work.”
Dr Everington added: “I look forward to joining the board of an organisation that is at the forefront of improving health and healthcare in this country and inspiring those who work in this field.”
Trustees are appointed for a three-year renewable term, and meet seven times a year. Their role is to agree the fund's overall strategic direction, in line with its charitable objectives, and to scrutinise management functions delegated to the senior management team.
