Stepnell reaches highest point of construction of Figbury Lodge nursing and dementia care home in Poole

A topping-out ceremony has been held to mark a key milestone in the development of Figbury Lodge, a new nursing and dementia care home scheme in Poole.

Construction lead, Stepnell, recently reached the highest point in the development of the new building, with the Borough of Poole’s Councillor Karen Rampton placing one of the final roof tiles.

The new two-storey facility is being built on the site of a former 50-bed care home in Mitchell Road, which was demolished in 2015.

Set to open next summer, Figbury Lodge - which will be operated by Shaw Healthcare - will provide 80 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and dressing and living areas.

They will be grouped into close-knit ‘household clusters’ each with communal living and dining spaces.

Designed by Atkins Global, the new facility will also feature staff offices, changing areas and welfare facilities.

And large multi-purpose communal spaces will also be built on the ground and first floors for school and community engagement projects.

“It’s great to have reached the topping-out stage of this much-needed specialist care home, and it’s exciting to see this fantastic new accommodation really beginning to take shape,” said Rob Speirs, Stepnell’s regional director.

Figbury Lodge is being built to help tackle a shortage of suitable specialist care provision in the area for people suffering with dementia.
