Willmott Dixon has been confirmed as main contractor for the the £45m redevelopment of Benenden Hospital in Cranbrook, Kent.

Benenden Hospital is a flagship independent hospital that provides healthcare to thousands of people each year and Willmott Dixon will deliver its masterplan to transform the hospital with new and updated facilities to meet society’s changing healthcare needs.

The redevelopment will see all patients staying at the hospital benefit from single bedrooms. Further modifications will enhance and improve the patient experience by creating a new main entrance with adjacent carpark and drop-off area, plus a glass roofed atrium providing patients and visitors with a relaxation area and catering facilities.

The hospital will also be able to provide updated facilities for treatment, such as scanning and diagnostic imaging all under one roof, an expansion of the physiotherapy area, modern operating theatres and a new endoscopy unit as part of a comprehensive refurbishment.

The contract is between Willmott Dixon and Benenden Health, which owns the site.

John Waterman, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the Southern Homes Counties said, “We are delighted to have secured this important contract. We have a strong local presence in Kent and our team is looking forward to creating a facility that will have a profound impact on supporting health and wellbeing in the region. We recently won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for our work in sustainable development and much of that was recognition of the positive impact we bring to communities. We’re looking forward to adding to that record here.”

Benenden Hospital director, Jane Abbott, added: “This is fantastic news. This is a milestone in the hospital’s 107-year history.”

The work is due to be complete by December 2016.
