A £1.3m investment at Braintree Community Hospital has enabled the opening of a new procedure room that will double the hospital’s capacity for orthopaedic care.
The new procedure room will support approximately 3,000 additional procedures annually, to also free up the hospital’s main theatres for more complex operations, including knee and hip replacements.
The room is specifically designed for treatments that do not require a full operating theatre, including minor interventions for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, and other foot, elbow, and upper limb issues.

Ayse Casey, Deputy Director of Operations, Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The room is a fantastic addition to Braintree Community Hospital, meaning patients coming to us for a simple procedure can be seen in a more appropriate environment.
“The new room will free up our main theatres for more complex surgeries, such as knee and hip replacements. This will help reduce waiting times and improve access to care for our patients.”
The procedure room was purpose-built to improve patient flow, increase staff efficiency, and provide a brighter, more comfortable setting for day procedures.
This new development is a major step forward for local healthcare and supports ongoing efforts across the Trust to reduce waiting times and improve patient experience across mid and south Essex.
